Identity Theft of Minors

Identity theft of minors is on the rise. Minors are considered to be a good target for criminals because children do not typically have an open credit file. Since children do not open up credit files at a young age, parents/guardians are not looking to see if their child has a credit report. Below are tips on what to do in order to keep your child’s identity protected.

  • Create a credit file on your child’s behalf
  • Freeze the credit file
  • Keep a record of the freeze on file

Visit www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0040-child-identity-theft#prevent for a more detailed guide on how you can freeze a credit file.
